| A self-portrait and nature shot... |

My love of photography has always been as a hobby. Interest in being behind the camera may stem from my father's interest in putting my brother and me in front of the camera for much of our youth. More important, this well-documented upbringing taught me the value of enjoying photographs: the images they preserve, the perspective they impart, and the memories they conjure.
Two memories from the late-1980s stand out as moments when contentment with point-and-shoot cameras gave way to interest in more serious equipment and shooting. The first memory was in a hotel lobby in Israel when I discovered "reaching out" with a telephoto lens to my subjects (family members). The second memory was in Sanibel, FL, where I began photographing the island's natural settings. The birds and flowers I started shooting there remain my favorite subjects.
I currently live outside of Washington DC in a place with many photography opportunities.
